WORK PLACEMENTS

The Master in Microelectronics includes a 6-ECTS elective course or internship named “Work placements in companies and/or research centers”. The physical presence of the student at the company/research institution during the internship is mandatory. It must also be taken into account that the student cannot perform his/her internship in the company/research institution in which he/she is working.

To perform an internship it is mandatory that the company/research center has previously formlized an external traineeship agreement with the University of Seville. The list of companies and research centers with traineeship agreement with the University of Seville can be found at https://servicio.us.es/spee/listado-empresas (in Spanish). If such an agreement does not exist it is possible to promote a new agreement. This process takes several weeks, so it must be started well in advance.

There are three alternatives to search and select an external traineeship:

1. Search for existing external traineeship offers for the Master in Microelecgronics at https://icaro.ual.es/us (in Spanish). Once it is selected by the student, the Master coordinator assigns the traineeship to the student.
2. In this online master, the students may be located at very distant geographical distances. Therefore, it is quite probable that there is no traineeship offer of interest for the student. In this case, the student may contact a company or research center in a convenient location for the student and working in areas of interest for the scope of the Master. Then, the student can propose the Master Coordinators an external traineeship with this company/research center. If it is necessary an external traineeship agreement will be signed with the University of Seville (see above). The external traineeship rules establish that if a student promotes the formalization of such an agreement, it has the right to obtain the first offer from such company/research center. Assignment of the offer is performed like in previous alternative.
3. The Master Coordinators have a list of companies and research centers that may be interested in offering an external traineeship. Under demand, a communication channel between the student and the company/research center can be established to find out if there is a common agreement about contents, dates, etc.

When the external trainieeship is completed, both the student and the company/research center must elaborate the report. Based on these reports, the university tutor assigns the grade of the course.

In case that a student that has been registered at this elective course does not find an external traineeship that meets his/her needs it is possible to replace this course by another elective course of the Master during the second enrollment period.

Finally, it should also be considered that it is possible to apply for recognition of ECTS credits by professional experience. For this, it is not necessary to be enrolled at the course “Work placements in companies and/or research centers”. According to existing regulation, it is possible to get a recognition of up of 6 ECTS per year of professional experience and the regulation establishes the procedure to duly certify said work experience (Article 19.2).
